Hancock of Scotland

Ernesto Michahelles (1893 – 1959) was an Italian born artist associated with the Futurist movement. Ernesto adopted the pseudonym THAYAHT, a bi-frontal palindrome that is both visually symmetrical and readable in it’s own reflection, in 1919.

Most famous for his invention of the “TuTa”, which was an early, unisex model for today’s jumpsuit, Thayaht was also an accomplished sculptor. Often with unfortunate fascist leanings, as was common amongst Italian Futurists of the period, Thayaht produced some spectacular, brutalist pieces throughout the late 20’s and early 30’s.
